I got on the bus with Allie this morning at 4 am I love her! We just click. Had a warm up run with her and Jen. Also with Kassie :)

It was truly heart breaking for me to let a handful of Women go out and pass me in the first 5 miles. Just as I was starting to let my confidence slide, I reminded myself that I was not there to prove anything. I was just here to run the half and finish without getting re injured. I think this is the first time I have neg split a race? Maybe I am wrong... I can't remember. Any way. That's what I did. From miles 10-13 I passed up 4 of the women.  I felt really good the whole time. I wasn't tired at any point. It was kind of amazing to see what it feels like to actually finish a longer distance feeling more strong. There was a girl on my heels that last mile. I could hear and sense her right on my shoulder, trying with all her might to get back passed me. Somehow I was able to hold her off.

After drinking water, eating a smoothie and walking around with my husband, I decided to run back up the course to find Rachelle. It was something I really wanted to do. I am so glad now that I did. It was kind of an emotional experience for me. I found her at 24.5 with her sister Amber who was riding a bike. Her Sister was talking to her. Reminding her of all the harder things she has done than run this marathon. Sorry, I guess I am emotional but tears started stinging my eyes as I remembered all the truly hard things I have gone through. They became the driving force for me 4 years ago to find more speed and endurance and fire in my running. They were what drove me to finally run a marathon. Those things call out our courage and our strength. I just tried to keep Rachelle's legs moving and reminding her to control her breathing. I had plenty of pep left in my legs to speed her up if needed. So awesome to see her cross the line at around a 2:59. Made my day! Congrats Rachelle!

And now it's onto building up more miles and endurance. I have lost some. I need to get it back.

Way to stick it out and finish it lily. I've been there too running racing not 100% and getting beat by people I know I can stay up w. Just train hard and get ready for the next. I ran that race years ago it was my 3rd half ever 3 weeks after Ogden half and I felt the same way every girl passed me in the first mile. It's like the Olympics at that race.

Oh ha ha, that's the perfect description. The Olympics in this half. It was totally like that!

Great way to approach the race. There is something to be said for the negative split effort and finishing strong. Get in a habit of doing that and good things happen!

What I love about your report is that on one hand you have this solid individual performance supported by a great community of friends. I also love that you don't hold out to race until you're at your best, but you went out and booked it anyway. Great job, Lily!

Yeah - Lily! You are a powerhouse. Great race.

I think you did an outstanding job Lily. It's taken me 3 years to finally plug into the direction I want to go. You will get to where I know you can go.

All that Rachelle stuff, yup, I just bawled reading about it from your post. Thanks for sharing. You are tough and I think highly of you and your running. :)

Such a great job Lily... I love how determined you are! Even without a lot of training you still pulled of a great race.

From Rachelle on Tue, Jun 11, 2013 at 11:44:58 from 159.212.71.17

Great race for you Lily! You were only about 15 seconds per mile slower for the half than you were for your 5k just a month ago. That is some pretty great progress in a months time. Keep training smart and you will be killing it by the fall.

Thanks so much for running with me at the end. It meant a lot to me to be running in with you and Jen by my side - my absolute favorite moment of the race!

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Jun 14, 2013 at 16:35:25 from 69.28.149.29

Good run. Even with the scaled down effort you still ran a decent pace. Now is not the time to prove things - just the time to train. And you got to experience this end of a sub-3:00 marathon which has some psychological significance for visualization - you can tell yourself as you train in the next 2 months that it will not be long before you will finish a marathon just like that.

From I Just Run on Mon, Jun 17, 2013 at 07:36:52 from 67.79.11.242

Great race Lily! Negative split and all. This is setting you up for some good things to come!
