I don't even want to write up a race report. I am really sad at how I did. I shot out to fast the first half, and started struggling miles 5 and 6. It wasn't pretty.

I know I am totally capable of doing better than this. I'm a little upset..... I should've listened to Allie. The heat and humidity conditions were awful and didn't help either.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda. Whatev! grrrrr

I found the silver lining in this race. I ran the first 5k in 19:26. 5k under 20 min! Now I'm going to have to run another 5k so I can meet and check off that goal this year.

Every race is a learning experience. That really is a tough course. NO WORRIES, we all know how fast you are.

From Bonnie on Mon, Jul 04, 2011 at 14:29:28 from 70.59.246.46

Happy 4th Lily! Coming back after a vacation is hard ... and 10Ks are pretty tough, unlike the marathon

you can't recover from going out too fast in either the 5K or the 10K ... so pacing is sooooo important, you are just out of practice. You will come back stronger than ever, just try to enjoy and learn from these "fun runs".

Thanks Ladies. You've made me feel better already.

IT WAS THE STENCH OF HUMIDITY, NOT TO MENTION THE STENCH OF ALL THE FIREWORKS SITTING IN THE VALLEY....I think that's why breathing was a HUGE issue. We only had ONE downhill moment and that's all the course gave us. I have always gotten a little depressed about this race because it is always SURPRISINGLY HUMID and HOT. And after our LONG COLD spring this is a double whammy. Time for some HEAT SIMULATION runs. Don't worry LILY seriously!! HOPE YOUR IT HEALS UP QUICKLY.

From Lily on Mon, Jul 04, 2011 at 15:03:14 from 67.199.178.210

Julie my breathing was totally out of control throughout. The humidity was totally getting to me, and the course went long -that never helps anything. All the hills, at the end, oh my! I don't even know what to think even still!

That's a *great* silver lining. Good job. :)

For once I agree with Kelli. Every race is a learning experience.

From allie on Mon, Jul 04, 2011 at 17:21:11 from 24.10.191.18

no worries, lily. that's a tough course and the 10k is a tough distance, especially when you haven't done one for awhile -- the pacing is tricky. but i am glad you found the silver lining -- a sub-20 5k is awesome. i agree with kelli (but not burt) that this was a good learning experience that leaves you better prepared for the next one. go lily!

also, i am now sure that i can run at least 6 miles, so i demand that we get together for a run.

Eeeeek the conditions sound horrible for fast running. I was thankful for the cloud cover on my run, but I was going s l o w! Woohoo on the 5k time.

From Lily on Mon, Jul 04, 2011 at 22:04:25 from 67.199.178.210

You are an amazing runner, one that I really admire in fact!! That 5k time is killer, and seriously a great 10k time as well.

From RAD on Tue, Jul 05, 2011 at 02:24:00 from 98.202.17.113

Lily, I'm going to join the sea of people telling you it was one bad race and we all have them. Your 5K time proves what an amazing runner you are. Stick to that and chuck the 10K time! Look at your fan club!

From Walter on Tue, Jul 05, 2011 at 09:43:58 from 75.220.146.195

Suck it up and blast it out on the next one. You can do it. We can help.

From Merri on Tue, Jul 05, 2011 at 17:50:34 from 160.7.252.148

Lily you did AWESOME! It might not have been the time you wanted, but it is still one fast time! Also I think the race was .13 long. And I am impressed with the 5k time!

From Tara on Fri, Jul 08, 2011 at 14:45:55 from 75.169.152.70

Okay, so you know. That was a very tough race. I'm pretty sure no one was too happy with their time. That last hill....so make it up in the Speedy Spaniard and I'll see you there!

Ps. I'm from Spanish Fork and ran for SFHS:)
