Ran the Scottish Sprint in Payson this morning just before the Scottish Festival and games kicked off. It was a teeny tiny, rinky dink race.. I cracked up laughing as I walked up to the race start. So did my husband. :) If he notices how small it is, then it was small! ha

I woke up late, had to get kids ready to come with (we met my family after in Payson Park) I barely got my bib pinned on. I didn't eat before and my Garmin would not turn on!  Zero warm up.I kept thinking: this ought to be a good one. I ran watchless for the first time in 3 years!

I registered for this race just to use as a speed workout, as I was going to be spending part of the day in the Park for the Scottish festival with my family.

First mile and a half are a really big uphill that met up at the mouth of Payson canyon, then it turned east. Then, there was still some incline. During the first mile some bikers passed and a guy on a bike shouted something at me, so I took my headphones off and he said go catch those boys! I recognized him from the gym. I tried! I passed 2 of the 6 men that were in front of me. I almost passed a 3rd at the finish line. My husband snapped a photo of it because I was on his butt and almost chicked him right at the finish. We had a good laugh about it afterwards.

I was surprised with my time as this was a MUCH harder course then the Lehi round up 2 weeks ago. (6:40 avg pace today) Looks like those few bouts of speed work I have done are already improving my fitness. I felt much better today cardiovascular wise, than I did at the Lehi round up too.

Bottom line: Do your speed work fast running bloggers!  They cause your fitness to take leaps! I am a believer in pushing yourself on those fast days to where it is very uncomfortable.  And this is why. It can pay off in even small amounts of time.

I feel like I am not doing to bad for not running the whole month of May and half of June. :)

Great race today Lily! That was a tough course and you rocked it.

I am excited to see what the next few months hold for you. You are just going to continue to gain speed as you progress with your training.

way to go lily!! love the watchless run!! that is REALLY why you ran faster. Garmins are mental. Seriously. You just keep running faster because you have no idea HOW fast you are running and your mind can't do tricks on you. Amber Green ran her 1:20:xx at Bryce last Saturday watchless on purpose. Although she says she will wear it next time I don't think she would have run faster with it, but slower. Just sayin'.
