So, I feel like I am riding the fitness roller coaster. I gain fitness up to last years par, then I loose it. I think it's just because I am running inconsistent. Anyhow, ran this race today. Was 50 sec slower than last year. I blame it partially on the crappy eating for the last 5 days. I swear I gained 6 lbs since Thursday. Sugar isn't my friend when I'm trying to run quick. So I must get my diet back in control. Also no soda. Even if it is diet soda, I think it wreaks havoc on the system.

This course is flat with some slight incline, I think it makes for the perfect race. I think more runners could gauge how they are really doing by running this 10k or the 5k because of the flat courses.

JulieC was there bandit and she ran well. Got to hang with RAD, Sue, Merri, Rachelle and MelanieB a bit after. Oh and Jen Hughes won the 10k. (she won hobble creek)  she ran a 37 min something. That chic is on a roll this year. I think she's gonna pull off a near win at SGM. Dead serious. To bad she's not on the blog.

3rd overall female, 3rd of 30-34 yr olds,  Jen Hughes & MelanieB are in my age div.  1st, 2nd 3rd :) hehe

Ran 7 more after wards on the River trail.

Nice job! That was an awesome race!

From Burt on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 14:59:22 from 72.223.91.148

Is Jen Hughes the inactive blogger Jen-Fit?

From Lily on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 14:59:40 from 67.199.178.210

No Burt. That is a totally different lady.

From Lily on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:01:37 from 67.199.178.210

And thank you Sarah. Looks like you did well yourself! :)

From Bonnie on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:03:23 from 64.119.33.134

I think this was a great race lily, you can't PR every time you race ... especially when some of your races were when you were in your best shape. Sometimes we just need to race to keep track of our fitness, and sometimes we need to race just to remind ourselves what races feel like. Besides, 10K's are hard!

I try not to drink soda any more, anything that can be used to clean coins can't be good for your stomach ;-)

From Burt on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:08:23 from 72.223.91.148

My sweat can clean coins.

From Lily on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:08:53 from 67.199.178.210

True Bonnie. I love what you have to say every time. :) 10k's are VERY HARD! eeek!

From Bonnie on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:13:27 from 64.119.33.134

Burt, just the thought of drinking your sweat kind of made me throw up a little in my mouth ;-)

From Burt on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:20:03 from 72.223.91.148

Yeah, it's like battery acid :)

From Burt on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:20:28 from 72.223.91.148

See? This is why Lily wants to quit the blog!

From Kira Bell on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 15:40:25 from 74.220.196.214

You did great! :) You're amazing! Ya, Diet soda still plays with ya.. Your body doesn't know how to process fake sugar. Sucks! There is a sweetener called stevia that comes from a plant that is supposed to be okay... but they don't put it in Diet Soda... Ugh!

From Merri on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 16:12:55 from 160.7.252.148

great job lily! your time is AWESOME!

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 16:26:09 from 71.219.67.175

Nice job on the race. It is a good course, but I do think mile 5 SUCKS big time! Put the uphill at the beginning, ya know????

You are in great shape, no worries.

From JD on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 16:47:15 from 97.117.107.209

Great running today. Especially with the extra miles! I agree, sugar kills. Everything in moderation - I tell myself as I dish out yet another bowl of ice cream...

From Sue on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 16:50:04 from 63.248.41.148

Good job Lily! You looked like you weren't even breaking a sweat!

From Andrea on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 17:59:26 from 67.177.21.60

Great race! 10k is my least favorite distance b/c it feels like 5k pace but for 3.1 miles longer!

I've been trying to get away from the diet soda as well; it's hard though because then I want to eat more. It basically just comes down to self-control, something that I seem to lack when training hard!

From Jody on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 18:29:22 from 75.141.131.35

Great job! That is a great time on an honest course. Good Luck at SG!

From Rachelle on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 19:19:03 from 66.7.127.115

You did awesome Lily! You really are such a great runner and I look up to you a lot. Wait to hang tough and run a great time.

Thanks for the ride home. :)

From RAD on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 19:48:03 from 76.27.16.189

Lily you ran a great race! I know the feeling of disappointment with your time, but I love that the top 3 women were from my AG! Okay, not exactly, but it makes me feel better about coming in 5th :)

You ran a great race! Nice job picking up some miles at home. It was great to see you again!!

From Walter on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 19:58:11 from 24.2.69.110

I missed the Onion days! Dang! Oh well, next year right? Nice job geting out there and running strong.

From Lily on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 20:14:56 from 67.199.178.210

Walter you better come out next year. The course is so fast! :)

RAD I love hanging with you. You make me laugh! :)

Thanks Jody and Rachelle.

Andrea- I have really bad self control when I'm training hard to. The more mileage increases, the worse I get! Ugh. You should run this race next year. Flat flat flat! :)

Kelli- I hit the wall a bit in the crappy 5th mile again! Ugh! Ugh! Ugh!

From Carina on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 20:21:43 from 204.15.86.83

You seriously ROCK!! Great race!

From Walter on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 20:24:59 from 24.2.69.110

I won it 2 years ago Lilly. Still have the watch and coin. :). I was expectIng onions.

From allie on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 21:02:07 from 24.10.191.18

i actually drink sweaty battery acid all the time. although it's not my favorite flavor (i prefer orange,) it provides electrolytes and all of the essential amino acids. protein too. i actually just read an article that said there is currently a major shortage and it will likely escalate to a national crisis in the coming weeks. apparently the only source for the beverage has stopped producing sweat indefinitely. sean hannity is livid.

lily - congrats on your race. you ran great today. i will agree that 10ks are hard. i'm too much of a wuss to even enter one. in regards to those 50 seconds -- one thing about last year is that you were close to peaking for TOU, so i think your fitness was sharper. you still have a few solid weeks before SGM, and i think everything will come together.

From Lily on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 22:02:16 from 67.199.178.210

Walter there were alotta people that smelled of onions... ahahaha

Allie about that battery acid. Do you think it's frying my brain?

I agree with the peaking idea. In fact, I thought about it this afternoon and have now taken that into account. I will get back there. It's coming in the next two weeks. :) I need to run solid for the next 3. I will try....

From JulieC on Mon, Sep 05, 2011 at 23:23:20 from 207.108.177.149

Lily-- I agree with Allie. Well said. And I really wish we talked over our strategy more and paced each other to share the pace and push it more (I didn't think talking about at mile 2 was the best time : D). I have no worries you will be right back at it giving it your all. : D.

From Jake K on Tue, Sep 06, 2011 at 11:30:19 from 155.100.226.53

Now you can just ride the fitness roller coaster to an "up" wave in a few more weeks (or maybe the "down" part of the roller coaster is the good part, considering its St George? I confused myself). But in any case, you have time to get in a few more weeks of solid training and then TAPER :-) 10Ks absolutely suck. Its the exact same pain as a 5K but for twice as long. But they are such good mental preparation for marathon running. I felt like junk in my 10K 2 weeks before UVM, but afterwards everything just "clicked." You don't want to peak too soon.

From DaleG on Tue, Sep 06, 2011 at 13:15:07 from 71.199.57.238

Lily, congrats on 3rd overall and 3rd in your group. Very cool. I agree with what Lily said, everything will come together.
