20 minutes of Strength training.

40 minutes of elliptical. Really hard effort that wore me out before I ran.

Came home and ran 6.5 outside, up the Center Street hill and back down. So hard. I know I didn't run my usual 7-8 miles today, but the efforts were hard enough that I felt like I did 10 miles.

I'm sitting here eating breakfast and trying to type. I keep dropping my precious scrambled eggs into my lap. Where's my coordination? Speaking of food. What kind of diet does everyone eat? Leave a comment and tell me how/what you truly eat everyday. I am curious about other runners diets.

Nice work Lily! Running hills alone takes a lot of motivation....I always stay away from hills unless forced by someone else. :)

Rachelle come on back to my blog and read what I wrote in the last paragraph :)

The best days begin and end with wheat toast soaked in butter and honey.

From bdase on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 09:16:35 from 160.7.242.251

Great workout Lily! Whole foods, lots of fresh fruits vegetables. No white sugar or white flour. No dairy. A gallon of water a day. I have been experimenting since the first of the year with no meat. I have ate some elk from last fall hunting season but not much. I'm not perfect all the time and do have a treat once in a while but i try to keep it as clean as i can.

I don't consider it a diet, it's just what i do and how i eat. Good habits are built over time. My body responds very well to what I'm doing. I always have more than plenty to eat :).

From Lily on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 09:16:49 from 67.199.178.95

Ah yes, toast, butter and honey!

From Neasts on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 09:22:19 from 75.169.62.136

My problem is that I eat too much or too little. I've got a pretty average diet and my weight has been pretty stable over the years, but the diet is not nearly as balanced as it should be. I aspire to eat like bdase but I usually end up eating an egg burrito instead of oatmeal. And lots of sugar and white flour and dairy. Not a lot of meat.

Lots of chic fil a and Inn and out Burger (its true). I am trying to stay away from those 2 places now that I have high cholesterol and the MA at my drs office told me I need to start doing cardiovascular excersice atleast 4 days a week.

From Rachelle on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 09:33:56 from 199.190.170.24

I like to call my diet "normal"...whatever that means right? I use food to fuel my body and if I am hungry I eat. That said I am pretty 80/20 - I eat really healthy (fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, ect) but I do not obsess about it. If I have a race coming up I pay more attention to my diet, if I'm not racing (like right now) I am a little more laid back.

Obsessing about food or specific diets in my opinion leads to disordered eating...disordered eating leads to eating disorders...been there done that and not going back! :)

From Rachelle on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 09:35:48 from 199.190.170.24

Angie - Chic-fil-a rocks...and my dr told me I need to exercise more to lower my cholesterol too! haha

Right now I'm eating, er, pounding Hershey Kisses. Does that count as dairy or white sugar? I've usually considered it a vegetable, because chocolate comes from the cocoa beans...

From Ericka on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 09:55:11 from 24.2.87.24

I've trained both ways.. Not such a good diet and eating to fuel my workouts. I have to say life is much better when I eat what my body needs. I try to follow a "food cube" diet as much as possible. Protein, good fats and non starchy veges. I'm a cheater and have treats, of course. And I eat dairy and meat.

From Lily on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:14:31 from 67.199.178.95

This is all good stuff. I am looking into schooling right now. To study sports nutrition. This stuff really fascinates me.

This is how I eat most of the time. I am like Rachelle 80/20. However, summer 2010 and 2011 I was %100. If you think I am making that up you can ask my Husband. I ate only non starchy Vegetables, low sugar Fruits and lean meats. Mostly Fish. Almonds and avocados. No dairy. That's it. I have a theory as to what eating like this %100 of the time did for me. It helped me during longer races because eating this way (sans white sugar, white flour and processed foods) helped my body became a master at switching into a fat burn for fuel when the glycogen ran out. Especially in 2010. I knew this was a lot of my success in long distance. At TOU in 2010 I never hit a wall like I saw a lot of other people. I never felt like I didn't have energy to go on. Even to the finish. Maybe that's just my body, but I find it very very interesting.

From AngieB on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:22:21 from 159.212.71.200

I really need to be better at eating. Maybe you can help me:) I just dont know what I should be eating actually. I also wanted to ask you what is was that you take for better recovery again?

From Lily on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:25:05 from 67.199.178.95

Angie they are BCAA capsules. With L-glutamine. Take some about 40 minutes before a run if u can. Then some after.

From AngieB on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:27:10 from 159.212.71.200

Where do you get them at?

From Kam on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:27:19 from 68.66.163.179

It is interesting. I know my regular diet is pretty poor, but I don't think it has much effect on my running. I am so far away from being GOOD, straightening out my diet is down on the list of improvements to make that would have an impact on finishing times.

It's hard to eat clean when you have a lot of food allergies. Nuts, out. Pome fruits, out. (that rules out larabars) And yeah, I'm allergic to broccoli. My doctor says I can't eat it.

Maybe if I didn't drink mtn dew, I could have shaved off 30ish seconds last fall...PSSSHTT!! glug, glug, glug, Ahhhh.

From AngieB on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:31:52 from 159.212.71.200

Aw Kam you have to keep the Mt Dew. Its your secret weapon.

From Lily on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:36:28 from 67.199.178.95

Brandon I don't call it a diet either. It's my diet, as in what I eat regularly, all through the year. I just have Friday night out to eat meals with my husband, and a treat if I feel like it ;) the rest stays the same.

Kam sorry for the allergies. :( keep the dew.

angie you can get them at GNC or any health food store.

From Carina on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 10:49:15 from 204.15.86.83

I love sugar :/ I am not a meal eater, mostly I snack during the day. I really try to snack on healthy food, whole grain crackers, and lots of fruit and veggies. I have recently added green smoothies and I love them. I really need help in the diet department too. But like Rachelle I am scared to follow anything too strict cause I obsess about it and it gets out of control!

From Kira Bell on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 11:01:41 from 74.220.196.214

Right now I eating a whole wheat bagel (110 calories) with laughing cow strawberry cream cheese.(For Breakfast) YUM

From Kira Bell on Thu, Mar 07, 2013 at 11:13:07 from 74.220.196.214

PS Heaven knows I'm perfect at eating. I'm not! I snack a lot out of boredom!

PPs. and I agree with Rachelle about disordered eating.

PPPS. Lily you've always looked great (still do) but I remember when you were on that diet. Hot dang. ;) I'm sure it would help benefit for a marathon race, but as a lifestyle.. You'd get deprived!

My diet's been a roller coaster because I have some weird intestinal issue the Drs can't seem to figure out. Now we're thinking it's celiac, so no wheat/gluten for me! With that being said, I'm addicted to: banana's foster uber bars, passion fruit chobani, and super cheesy kale chips. I eat super clean (lots of fresh fruits and veggies and lean protein) and drink 1-2 fruit/veggie smoothies a day. I do notice if I eat "too clean" I am low on energy. Also, somehow a hard chocolate snack (e.g., gluten free brownie) the night before a long run leads to a killer long run. :) I eat all day long because I'm always hungry, and am now noticing switching from 3 meals a day to 4 helps not having to eat at least once an hour, which is super annoying.

From JD on Fri, Mar 08, 2013 at 19:44:16 from 71.219.77.31

a bowl of raw oatmeal every morning, then: Bajio's, Zupa's, Noodles & Co., Taco Time, Little Caesar's, for lunch. 2 or 3 bananas throughout the day. lots of water. doughnuts, cake, ice cream, chocolate in many forms.

From Toby on Fri, Mar 08, 2013 at 20:09:24 from 199.101.229.6

I make everything from scratch. Homemade pizza dough, sauce, bread, rolls, brownies, cookies. NO processed food. But we do eat a lot of homemade treats :)
