Gym ( I HATE THE GYM! I'll expand on this in a moment.) Some random weights for 15-20 minutes. Then elliptical for 45 minutes.

Ran 4.40 outside. I am keeping the pace slow so I don't hurt myself. I am supposed to run every other day, but I couldn't handle one more minute in the gym. I AM SO ANNOYED! I can't get through any type of workout without someone making some stupid comment about something. Meat heads like to poke fun at how I am not strong enough anymore, or my form isn't perfect. Or they just plain like to try and flirt with me in their own stupid way. I am sick of harassing comments! I can't get into the cardio without being stopped and asked gazillions of questions. I do not wake up so early to waste time. I just want to get it done and get home.

I was already agitated from that, so I get home and run on the trail. It was a million times better than being in the smelly sweaty gym! However the old men on the trail are nuts. I don't understand why they think the girl flying past them with earphones on has the breath and the time and the HEARING for them! I hear muffled things through my earphones. They are talking to me but I can't hear them! I AM RUNNING, I AM NOT STOPPING TO CHAT WITH YOU!  I am so annoyed! My husband wonders what on earth is so awesome about me that I am constantly getting bugged! I wonder the same thing...I like to be friendly and give a smile and a quick hello, but I don't like small chat when I am trying to get a workout in. End of story. Thanks for letting me vent blog!

Thank you for explaining exactly why I never set foot inside a gym :-)

Glad you are able to run again. Your patience over the past couple weeks will pay off bigtime down the road. Small setbacks are OK, but you probably avoided a bigger one by being smart.

Jake you made me laugh. The gym sucks! Stay far away. I would if I didn't feel compelled to use the elliptical :( as far as my calf, I need to thank you for being my biggest voice of reason right before Provo City. it was your last words that kept ringing through my head. "If you run your leg worse..." I know you were right. I'm glad I didn't run my leg worse. I surely would have! I may not be back with full force the next 2 weeks, but I'll get back fully soon. Thanks much for your advice and concern!

Its hard to be objective with what is best for yourself when you want to run so badly. I just wanted to hopefully give you a different perspective without telling you what to do. Like you said, maybe you won't be at 100% in 2 weeks, but you might have just prevented yourself from spending 8 weeks cross-training.

From Carina on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:06:04 from 204.15.86.83

I am SO glad that you listened to your body and took some time off. All things considered it was a pretty fast recovery and you are running pain free!!!! Great work today. Don't listen to the meat heads, they are just jealous!

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 09:07:14 from 74.82.64.34

So true. And as we just discussed. 8 weeks of xtrain would undoubtedly include the gym. Dread!

From Rachelle on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:03:33 from 199.190.170.31

I totally and completely ignore people at the gym. Rude? yeah maybe but whatever. All the meat head dudes there that think they're hot please do not swear hate me and I could really careless. haha that said I rarely get to the gym anymore and I definitely don't miss it. :) So glad you are back to running!

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:12:17 from 74.82.64.34

Haha Rachelle! I love it! I totally try and ignore them too. I wear headphones in the weights for that very reason. They don't get a clue! For some reason I'm prime target for taking stabs at. My hubs thinks they are trying to piss me off to give them attention. I'm not falling for it anymore. I'm not talking to anyone anymore. Except maybe peeps I know in the other section. Usually people that run! Friends! :)

Runners get other runners. Thank goodness

That bites, Lily!!! People are so rude. Glad you had were able to run.

From Lily on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 10:24:15 from 74.82.64.33

Thanks Dale! I know I probably sound like a rude chick. I'm not trying to be. They are honestly borderline harassing me. Plus, whoever said I was trying to body build? Those guys are serious a-holes that they poke fun at runners lack of bulk! I'm good not having extra bulk! I'm strong and fit as a runner. Its good enough for me!

From Kira Bell on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 11:27:19 from 74.220.196.214

Lol, They are being mean becuase that's their form of flirting.I know, cuz ive seen it happen to you first hand. It's like going back to elementary school again. They need to grow up! Just take it with a grain of salt. They don't have a clue. I think the reason why you're "special" is because you've been consistently going to the gym for several years, and they get comfortable with what they say. Most of those men are married, and its totally inappropriate. It's only the meat heads too. They think they own that gym. Friday, one meat head kicked me off a machine because he was "using" it. Yet.. He was 50 feet away from it. WTF?

How you dooo-in?

From allie on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 17:18:46 from 71.213.50.84

all that comes to mind when i think of gyms is anonymous treadmill flatulence in an enclosed and humid environment. if that's not the description of hell...

From Dan on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 17:20:45 from 24.209.83.20

I am 110% with you about the gyms and running... I love how people strike up a convo when I dart on by. If you want to pace with me and chat, by all means I am good for that :)

SO happy you are running without pain!

Hi Allie...nice description.

I nominate this comment string as the most entertaining in 2012... The descriptive imagery is fantastic.

And you can't help it if you're a hot mama! Still annoying. I never get a second look at the gym, I even scare myself whe I look in the mirror and see what the cat dragged in that morning! Ha:) just keep doing what you are doing and get better so I can see you at a race this summer... Oh the weddin bells 5k!

From Lily on Thu, May 17, 2012 at 08:00:47 from 67.199.178.210

Kam LOL! I agree. I keep coming back to it each morning and laughing. I was so disgruntled!

Tara I getting back at it quicker than I thought! I hope I see you at UVM! Right now I am still so unsure about it. For sure the Speedy Spaniard :)

Dan, people that walk tend to try and talk to the people running. I don't think they get it :)
