The elliptical totally redeemed itself for me today. I did a high intensity workout on it today and it *almost* came close to the same feeling as a speed workout. I've been wearing a heart monitor every morning. I had won it last Sept. at a race. It's finally being put to good use. I was able to hit my max heart rate zone on the elliptical today, with a 1-2 minute recovery in between. If I can do this workout a couple times a week until I am better, I shouldn't lose to much vo2 max right?

It's not running but it's better than nothing.

I think I may have MTSS. I think I am scared of how long it will take to heal up. I think I need to start wearing a light weight stability shoe. I think I pronate and it's causing me problems. I also had my si joint checked and it's rotated a bit again and I have a leg length discrepancy. I think I need to make some appts. to get myself some help so I can heal and get back at it faster. I also came to terms with the fact that I brought this calf problem on by upping mileage to quickly in one week.  !@#$%^&^&%$#!

I can't believe this is happening to me again...

Great job on the elliptical Lily. I am so so sorry about the calf problem. I think at this point it is probably a good idea to go to the Doctor and try to get some answers. At least then you would know what you are dealing with.

I am definitely thinking about you.

Thanks So much Rachelle. I am a bit of an emotional mess. I am trying hard to not be a baby and finding things that make me just as happy. My kids and husband... I also get to live vicariously through my kids. Both older boys are track racing this week and next week. And my daughter asks to be taken to the track most days and she is fast. Fast for a 6 year old anyway :)

Lily I am seriously so sorry, injuries are the worst. I am glad that you got some endorphins this morning with the elliptical, I know it's not the same, but like you said, better than nothing! When I had shin splints physical therapy helped a lot and they also did gratsons technique(?) basically scraping. I think it helped things heal faster. Keep us posted!!

Carina thanks. Yeah I was reading hat its reccomended to get that technique done. Where did you go to have it done? I have no clue where to go

That is awesome Lily! Life is about so much more than running and sometimes it is hard to remember that when we are over consumed with running. I have turned into a FT stay at home mom (babysitting my nephew) every Tues until school is out so we should get together for a long walk on the River Trail one of these days.

Also funny story: I went to my Sisters school today to take her lunch and so she could see her little boy for a minute. She teaches first grade and all of her students wanted to race me. They totally kicked my butt in the 100 meter dash! haha kids have so much energy. I love it!

Rachelle we should hang out. Tuesdays I'm totally here just hanging out. Okay so, my oldest is almost 13, and he kicks my trash in the 200 and 400. When I'm better, were going to test each other I the mile. He is light and fast. Gifted athlete. Doesn't realize it yet! ;) kids are pure energy I swear!

I went to the physical therapy office by the American fork hospital. Only certain pt are certified for the technique I guess. My pt was Alexis Lockyer. She did a good job.

hang in there lily. injuries can definitely be accompanied with depression/feelings of loss etc. i am so glad you haven't thrown the towel in and you are x-training like a madwoman. allie proved to everyone last year what x-training can do to maintain your fitness. hang in there!

From Lily on Tue, May 08, 2012 at 14:44:13 from 74.82.64.33

Yeah because its a certain learned technique, I figured its only done by certain therapists. I really want it done. I think I will see my Dr first for a confirmed diagnosis. Then I'll know what to do from there. 10 yrs running and the first time I've ever had a shin splint. I'm still in shock!

also - melanie b. from the blog x-trained for most of boston training and still ran a respectable time (considering her injury and the heat that day).

Melody thanks and you're so right. And I wondered if Mel had been hurt. Any idea what she had? I've missed her blogging. I checked back often, but her calendar was still offline. :\
