Today, I ran 21 miles  (or 6 times around the river trail loop) in 2 hrs and 45 minutes on the dot. I didn't really push any speed, I just kept it around 7:50 pace. I stopped 2 times, at miles 10 1/2 for some water, grapes and cyto-max. Then again at 13 miles to kiss my boys off to the first day at school and another drink. I know my fitness level is there. I was not winded or overly tired once during the run. It was good for me to do this. My confidence level is up for the Top of Utah. Now I really know what kind of guts I am made of. I think I am on track for at least a 3 hr 25 minute marathon. But I always surprise myself and underestimate my ability.

I think you underestimate your abilities too. I see faster than 3:25 for you at TOU. If you can hold back just enough to have a little extra in the tanks for the last 5 miles then you'll crush it. A lot of people spend all their energy on the first 20 and hope to coast the last 6, but fail to realize that a lot of the last 6 is uphill and then they bonk. You'll be great though. Way to go today.

Lily, this is soooo awesome! You are going to do so well at TOU and I'm really excited to see your time. Congrats on a really good run this morning. You are looking so strong right now.

Is Burt referring to ogres, onions, or cake? Nice job on the 21 miles. jun is right - TOU lends itself very well to a fast 1st half, even in the BQ range, a lot of people add 7-12 minutes to their 2nd half. Some of that comes between 18 and 20, but 21.5-23.5 is a gradual incline that doesn't seem too bad. You might notice your times suffering and think you've lost it, but if your prepared, psychologically, it shouldn't ruin you.

Great pace for the miles, especially with no real fatigue! You got the guts. I think you'll suprise yourself out there. A little race day magic never hurts.

nice lily! you are definitely ready. and 3:25 is conservative; i am sure you will be much faster than that.
