I made it 7 miles today. But I am unsure that I can actually count that as running. My calf hurt a lot yesterday after the 5k and the 4 miles I ran afterwards. This morning started out as more of a brisk walk with a limp. Then intervals of running and brisk walking. More walking than anything.

I am so down. I think I need to see the Dr this week to figure out for sure that it is shin splints in my right leg. I am going to take 3 days off and see if that helps alleviate some of the pain and discomfort. I hope Provo City half is still within reach. If it hurts, I can't say that I think it's wise to try and run it.

I'm kind of weepy today over this. But I know if I take time off now, I have a better chance of healing up the problem quicker and UVM half can still be done. I also found a website that said to ice bath dip the leg 10-15 times with a minute break in between each dip. I did that this morning and will do it each day this week. Also I'll ice massage it during the day.

Hope the doc has good news, I am glad I read your day as I'm too impatient when it comes to injury recovery. So chin up and you can rock out the UVM!

Oh I am sorry Lily. I definitely think taking a couple of days off is probably the right call. Keep ice on it as much as possible and get you a pair of compression sleeves/socks. I am thinking about you. If it is indeed just shin splints and not something worse I am confident you will definitely be okay for UVM.

Lily- I am SO sorry, injuries are the worst. I always cry when I get injured. Shin splints are what kept me from running St. Geroge last year!! The good news is that with some PT they were pretty good after a few weeks. Hope the Dr. has some good news!!!!

I am sorry Lily! See a doc for sure for piece of mind at least. Days off aren't a bad idea either even though they suck. You can always bike :)

Stay positive Lily! Maybe this injury subsides in a couple of days or so.... you never know!

why do our bodies not like us sometimes?!? It makes me mad. Sorry Lily, I hope the measures you're taking help heal that calf in no time.

lily - you are being very smart. i've been in this boat before (exactly one year ago) and i didn't take time off. it got me nowhere. i ended up with a nice pair of crutches because i was stubborn. i like your plan and i hope it clears everything up with your calf. 3 days off is so much better than 3 weeks or months!

i'll hope for the very best for you. :)

dan - that smile at the end was supposed to be a happy/cheery smile, not a creepy one. :)

that one was supposed to be creepy.

Good news so far Rachelle, Carina, Rad,Derunzo, Dan and Allie. I've been icing like a mad hooker on the corner of S. Temple and my shin is already seeming to be healing. I even feel like I can do a short run tomorrow. I am so excited. I think I will be good to go on Saturday. Keep your fingers crossed for me! :)
