Strength trained this morning. Fun. Not. (This will be a run on paragraph. Updating via crackberry). Then I did 20 minutes of a speed training setting on the step mill. And 32 minutes hardcore of elliptical hell. Ummmmmm somehow I think this cardio is not helping get my calf better. it hurt afterwards! I'm now contemplating total rest from all cardio. I really think my calf needs complete rest. This sucks! I can't believe this is happening to me.

it's been awhile since i stopped in here, but i have been thinking about you, lily! i'm really sorry for the continued frustrations with your calf. injuries really are so tough. i hope things start looking up soon. i think you have been very smart about everything so far -- just continue to listen to that feedback and work with your body as it heals. it will heal.

Thanks allie. I feel like I am living a dream. This is so weird. I just can't believe this happened. I was feeling so good and everything was coming together before this happened. It's a travesty. But I am feeling positive most of the time. I know it will get better! But maybe not with me pushing it each day. I think a lower elliptical setting each day will be ok. Or spinning. But no step mill. Nooooo

So sorry Lily! Have you gone to the Dr yet?

Personally for me I have a tendency to push myself way to hard when cross training because I am so frustrated that I can't run. And I definitely do not think that is beneficial for the healing process.

Hi Lily. I haven't met you, but I enjoy reading your blog. I'm sorry you are still injured. How frustrating. Anyways, do you have access to a pool at your gym? If you don't want to completely give up cross training, maybe pool running would work for you. Something like this (but hopefully just for a week or so): http://www.runningtimes.com/Article.aspx?ArticleID=6032&PageNum=1

I've heard that it's completely, mind numbingly boring, but that you can maintain a pretty high level of fitness with it.

Lily... DON"T DO THE STEP MILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember that's how you re injured yourself a few years back. Don't even do the arc trainer even though its lower impact then the step mill its working your calfs. I think the Elliptical is fine, but try not to worry about your heart rate or doing it on the hardest setting.. I understand about not wanting to do loose fitness and wanting a good work out, but as Kara Goucher says in the book you lent me.. You won't loose much fitness in the span of 2 weeks. YOu have a good running foundation that's easy to get back on. But take care of your body girl. (Which you are! Sorry if that sounded like I was lecturing.. Just reiterating what you already wrote) Good luck girl. Ill see you tomorrow!

Rachelle yeah, I am pushing to hard trying to hang onto fitness. But I'm working against myself, thus the reason I am saying I may take an overall cardio break. We'll see. I can't live without my blood pumping first thing in the am.

Tina thanks for reminding me that I should try pool running. Sounds better than doing nothing! :)

Kira, I won't be doing the step mill again for some time. Looking forward to seeing your cute face tomorrow! :)

Just like you said to me, Lily, hang in there and don't give up. If you have to, wave your arms around and do some knee lifts to get the blood pumping.

I used the hand cycle, or arm bike or whatever it's called at the YMCA while I recovered from a fractured tiba. It was a decent cardio workout and total rest for the legs.

Ha ha Rattle, that's what my husband tells me to do! :) I'll try it

If it hurts I wouldn't do it. Take some time off and catch up on your tv shows like Maury.

I am not the father!

Did you rub some butter on it? Sorry about the injury. They suck!

LOL, I agree with Scott too!!!
