Strength training for about 30 minutes. Got told I look more ripped. Yeah, that's what happens when you don't run your tissue away.

1 hour 10 minutes elliptical HARD effort. I wish I could explain how hard of an effort I am putting in. hmmm Maybe this will help, my heart rate is staying between 166-180. Spiking to 180 when I go to level 18, other than that, I stay at a level 16 or 17.  It's the only thing I can think of do to to save my running fitness. I am not getting hurt on the elliptical, so please no lectures. My calf is already feeling healed. But I know from experience that it is to soon to try and run. I need another week or more.

lecture, lecture, lecture! :)

I think you're doing a great job. Keep up the hard work and it will pay off when you get back to running. I just wish you were going to Boston still :(

OK I could handle a lecture from either of you 2. But you know, everyone knows what's wrong on the blog, and everyone else knows what you are doing wrong. haha!!!!

I think its highly impressive to get (and keep!) your HR that high. Seriously, when I do anything other than running, I can't get it above resting!

Back in the days when Paula Radcliffe was on top of the world, she used to supplement her running with additional high-intensity x-training on the elliptical. It allowed her to get in more max-HR level work without destroying her body. In the long term, her body ended up destroyed anyways, but she was also running 140mpw and through a lot of injuries.

Last year when I knew I was going to have to stop running for 6+ weeks for the stress fractures, I did a few workouts with the HR monitor, and it really helped me gauge what I was doing on the bike while I healing up. Because I kept my HR where it was when I was running (or more), I really didn't lose a whole lot, cardiovascularly. (That didn't qualify as a lecture, did it?)

I think the elliptical is so much harder than running and I work up double the amount of sweat (and always lose too much weight) when I am stuck on that awful beast. Keep on keeping on Lily and try not to get discouraged. You are definitely maintaining your fitness.

Keep your head up. Your in the right direction and being smart. I agree the more I run the wimpier I look. I am implementing strength training in. I like the ripped look.

You are the elliptical Queen Lily, way to keep your fitness up. I going to try level 16 or 17 for a minute or two just so I know what your kind of awesomeness feels like. I'm usually like on 7 or 8.
