I've had a realization of sorts the last few days.  I have been dealing with a self confidence issues in my running abilities for a while now. It all started with that 8 week injury in January, and then it has been further exasperated by the little injuries afterwards ( PF type thing, phantom knee pain, and now a sore tendon). I feel like just when I work back up to my old self, something will start hurting and my confidence takes a hit again. The injury from the winter and now all the other little ones that keep popping up are all on my right side/leg. It makes me wonder if there is some kind of mechanical issue going on with me on that right side. Anyway, this morning during my short run which was after an hour on the elliptical, I realized that I just need to be happy with what I can do in the moment. I don't want to let the little things deter my vision of the goals I have this year. If I need a running rest for a week, than so be it.

I think the mind plays a lot of games with us in our running abilities. Today I just had to dig deep to remember all the adversities I've gone through to get where I am now. I am not going to let a little pain stop me from the things I will accomplish.  That doesn't mean I will ignore them and run myself into the ground, but if I am feeling good and run a race, then I won't tell myself that I can't do a certain time. I won't throw a grim outlook on the rest of the summer just because my knee might be bothering me a bit (or a sore tendon!) . I am just going to change my mindset and hope the rest will follow suit.

That's all.  Happy Tuesday.

Ran to the gym (it's about 2.55 away), worked on elliptical hell for 30 min, then ran home and around the hood for a total of 7 miles all together. I hurt a bit in that tendon. BEAUTIFUL morning!

It's the 1st of June! Today is gonna be a great day!

6.5 with Merri. We did a loop in the river bottoms. Awesome. We got to see the sunrise and awesome views. We kept the pace pretty moderate so as not to burn out our legs -Merri did 10 all together and I need to save my legs a bit for the candy bar 5k tomorrow.

Oh my!!!!! I almost cracked the 20 min time. I think I said just 2 days ago  that I felt it was close. I missed it by 3 seconds! It's going to haunt me, but I am happy because this means my fitness is improving!

OK the Nestle 5k is HUGE! I walked up to Springville High School and looked like a deer caught in the headlights. There was easily 800 people there    -to race... ummmmm dang! The starting line was even more intimidating. Immediately spotting 2 SUU track and field college athlete gals as well as several other Southern Utah county 'elites'. Remember the other day when I blogged about changing my mind set? Well this was my test. I had to reach into my mind and believe that it didn't matter who was there. I am capable of doing what I put my mind too.

There was a lot of kids at the front of the start line which I think is a bad idea. It causes major havoc. Weaving at the start is not one of my favorite things.

Mile 1 split: 6:33  McKenzie  sneaks up behind me! I love her! This gave me a total BOOST! I clamped onto her pace and tried to keep with her. Seems like last summer we ran pretty much the same pace in all our races. FUN!

Mile 2 Split: 6:44  GIANT HILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I want to die. McKenzie is PASSING PEOPLE on the hill. HA HA HA! Not Lily Wheatfill. NO WAY! I am not the best hill runner. I knew that I would recover after the hill and I did. That is the steepest hill I've ever run in a 5k..... ever.

Mile 3 split: 6:10 Fastest split and in the last mile. This is called me repeating over and over in my head "faster turnovers, faster turnovers". Yes, I talk to myself at times when I run, and it works.

.10  split: 35 seconds. I saw the clock closing in at 19:54 and I surged as hard as I could. So hard. To a 4 second miss to get under 20. I almost did it.....  so close.

Today I shaved 43 seconds off my 5k time in 7 days on a harder course. I finished only 70 seconds behind 2 collegiate athlete women, and I am just a 31 yr old Mom of 4. I don't feel to shabby about the things I can accomplish. -even if I missed my goal by 3 seconds. I think it's okay to feel proud at times.

I LOVE RUNNING!
